Halberds are weapons often used in Europe during the Middle Ages; in modern times, ceremonial versions such as this pair are used by the Swiss Guard at the Vatican. Our tall and decorative halberds date to circa 1900 and were constructed with iron blades mounted to wooden handles. One of the blades is a partisan trident, with two curved tines that angle down, forming a hook. The other blade is closer to a poleaxe, with asymmetrical barbs flanking the rising tip. Purely decorative, our tall wood and iron halberds could be displayed over a mantle (crossed) or used as elements flanking a door.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Slight losses, fleabites, and rubs to iron. Commensurate wear to wood handgrips, presenting as minor rubs, age separations, and nicks. Very light oxidation.
