Description

This magnificent and tall wooden jardiniere or planter is from a private chapel in a chateau near Bruges. It is in two pieces: the hexagonal jardiniere and the tripod base. The planter is completely hand carved and painted, although it probably had a zinc liner in the upper portion at one time.

The ground color is a pale blue and the raised motifs are a light cream. The motifs include acanthus leaves, palmettes, C-and S-Scrolls, lion’s feet, flowers and ribbons. Each panel of the tripod pedestal base has different motifs. One of the sides depicts St. Peter, holding the keys to heaven. The other two sides depict trophies that are musical in nature. All this rests upon three large lion’s paw feet.

Beautiful with or without plantings, this tall and highly unusual jardiniere will make a wonderful statement anywhere it is placed. It can also be used to house uplight fixtures, dried flowers, etc.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with age separations, chipping to paint and wood, losses to some motifs as seen in photos.
