A must-have for any wine lover, this oak calvados barrel was hand-carved in France, circa 1850. Calvados is an apple and pear brandy specifically manufactured in Normandy, with the first known record of production dating to 1553. The ovate barrel is bound together by eight iron straps, with an H-stretcher on the front façade to help keep the overall form. Beneath the stretcher is an access door held fast by a foliate strap affixed by a bolt with a small brass spigot below. A more recent, shaped stand allows the calvados barrel to be displayed in a kitchen, wine room, or den.

CONDITION: Very good condition with fleabites and light nicks. Oxidation to straps and slight wear around the stave hole, most likely from a bung. The stand was carved more recently and there are traces of old restoration work to strengthen the iron straps.
