Originally the back wall of a French fountain, this cast iron fountain façade is from circa 1890. The iron has oxidized due to exposure to the elements, giving it a fantastic brown and light gray patina. Formed as a shaped console, the façade has great texture, as noticed by the stylized water droplets at the bottom. The 2 ½ inch diameter spout opening is enveloped by a raised circular molding beneath a large, scalloped shell under a pair of volutes with foliate margents. A twisted swag hangs from the shell, dotted by several flowers. The rectangular plinth, which has canted upper corners and a protruding middle section, supports two large volute swirls that frame the water beads. Our cast iron fountain façade can be incorporated into an existing fountain or used as a decorative wall sculpture on an exterior wall.
CONDITION: Good condition with minor rubs and faded elements. Oxidation commensurate to age and exposure to elements. Some detail photos show a bronze spout paired with the façade, but this is not included.
