Known in French as a “penture”, this pair of irons date to approximately the late 15th century. They come from a lot of door and shutter hardware that was salvaged from a French building long ago. Iron hardware often outlives the wooden doors they were originally mated to. Their purpose was not only decorative, but added structural support to the planks of the door. They also would permit rotation of the door when mated with hinge. French iron hardware of this age and beauty are hard to find.
CONDITION: Good condition. Rusting and pitting to iron.
