This antique cast iron fountain spout from the 1800s has a stylized dolphin motif at the spout. When France was ruled by kings, the heir to the throne was known as the Dauphin (dolphin in French), therefore we see this motif used throughout many periods of French history and decorative arts. The patination of this spout sets it apart, with a mix of red, green, and orange added to the deep brown finish of the iron. A large spout like this one would be exquisite when paired with an indoor or outside water feature.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition, with some areas of oxidation and traces of red paint. There are variations to the dimensions as a result of the casting process and from previous installations, most noticeably the round end of the tail.
