This versatile and unusual antique French hall tree and umbrella stand is in the Louis XV rocaille style. At the top center of the crown area is a reticulated scalloped shell with c-scrolls and a center acanthus leaf at the bottom. There are s-scroll shaped acanthus leaf moldings at the shoulders on either side extending three-quarters of the way down the sides. Another s-scroll molding extends down to the shell platform where the umbrellas would be placed. The opening for the umbrellas is a beautifully hand carved stylized shell.
This versatile antique French hall rack, umbrella stand will be a wonderful addition to any entrance. It could also be easily converted into a powder bath framework for a sink by removing the back or removing the hooks and adding a mirror.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition; minor loss to one motif, minor nicks. It appears there was another row of hooks above the platform at one time (filled)
