Set of Four Painted 18th Century Interior Doors from Provence, France

Description

This set of four interior doors from Provence, France, was hand-carved in the mid-1700s, making them period Louis XV architecturals. All four doors have been carved identically, although there are some slight deviations in the dimensions. Each door has three asymmetrically shaped panels, although the overall composition is very symmetrical, except for the subtle arches of the tops. The doors have been repainted more recently in an off-white over French gray, with the visible brushstrokes adding to the appeal of the door. The verso sides have distinct palette differences, with the shorter doors having hues of red, pink, and white over gray, while the larger doors are a composition of white, green, and gray (see detailed photos for further clarity). Most of the original hardware remains, including three gudgeons with highly scrolled mounts on each door, latches, bolts, and two keyplates, each with a key. These Provence interior doors are very charming and ready to be installed at the entrance of a wine cellar, bedroom, or walk-in pantry.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor nicks, rubs, and losses to wood. The painted finishes were added more recently, but commensurate losses indicate that they were repainted quite some time ago. Most of the hardware is still present, including gudgeons with scrolled mounts, latches, bolts, and keys.
