Description

A well-carved pair of architecturals, dating to the 1800s, these large French doors feature five panels of motifs in the style of the Gothic period. The top two panels, which are aligned vertically, are adorned with arcading that is topped by barbed spandrels set within protruding molding. Similarly, the bottom two panels are vertical, with thick linenfold also inside a raised surround. The center panel is horizontal, with a quatrefoil surrounded by multiple barbed trefoils. Iron hardware can be seen on the backs, with each door having three gudgeons with long straps embellished with small volutes. One of the doors still has locking attachments, such as a slide bolt and latches. The doors have been stripped more recently, leaving light traces of white and brown amongst the mainly beige colored wood. Our Gothic-style French doors would make a fantastic entry to a wine room, study, or a built-in pantry.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor rubs and age separations. Light woodworm damage, with some areas that were filled during old restoration. The wood has been bleached more recently, leaving traces of the original finish.
