This pair of forged iron candleholders was produced in France in the early 1900’s. The two holders have slightly different dimensions, indicating that they were crafted by hand.
Each candleholder has two flat saucer-shaped bobeches beneath cylindrical capital cups. Elegant S-scroll arms flow towards a central ball joint, where they meet with a turned pricket that rises in between the cups. Four scrolled legs emanate from beneath the ball joint and are arranged in an “X” configuration. Mirroring the shape of the arms, the legs terminate on scrolled feet, giving the candleholders added grace.
Our pair of French candleholders would look fantastic sitting on top of a fireplace mantel. The darkly patinated forged iron pieces can also be placed on a buffet, console, or side table.
CONDITION: Very good condition. Wear commensurate to age and use with minor nicks. Light buildup to bobeches and cups.
