Part of a larger installation from the 1700s, this pair of Italian giltwood altar ornaments are roughly 34 inches tall. Foliate in nature, the leafy stalks curve in opposite directions at the tips. Also of note are variances to the dimensions, which while minimal, indicate these were hand-carved. The tall golden branches are dotted with flowers and have a volute curl at the base, adding to the beauty of the pieces. More recently, they have been mounted to painted black stands with thin metal arms, allowing our giltwood altar ornaments to be placed on a fireplace mantel or sofa table.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition with minor rubs, losses, and pinpricks. These are fragments from an 18th-century installation, with original joineries having been previously filled. The ornaments have been mounted more recently to painted stands with metal arms.
