Dating to the 1800s, this massive French mortar and pestle was hand-carved in slate.  Apothecaries would use a mortar such as this to grind up herbs for medicines.

CONDITION: Good antique condition.  Commensurate age separations and losses.  Fleabites and light scratches with some buildup.
