French Mid-Century Gilded Brass and Glass Bar Cart, Attributed to Maison Baguès

SOLD

Description

Attributed to Maison Baguès in Paris, this functional bar cart features two tiers of glass set inside a gilded brass frame. Beaded handles on the removable top tier allow the 14 W x 26 7/8 tray to be used for drink service. The bottom tier has three open circles, perfect for storing your favorite bottles of alcohol. Both pieces of glass are set within a pierced rim of geometric shapes, with fluted vertical supports topped by pinecone finials. Each of the four supports terminates in wheels, with two swivel wheels in the front and two much larger rolling wheels in the back. An arching, fluted handle at the front allows the cart to be transported wherever drink service is needed.

An elegant brass and glass bar trolley or drink cart, the original design is most likely attributed to the Dutch designer, Jean-Henri Jansen (1854-1928). During the early- to mid-1900s, the Jansen House began to collaborate with Maison Baguès, resulting in the production of our functional bar cart. This is a perfect accessory for a bar or wine room, veranda, or kitchen, although the transportability of the cart allows it to be used in any room of the house or outdoors.

CONDITION: Very good with commensurate wear to the wheels and very light buildup to some areas of the brass. One of the front wheels has been professionally restored.
