When Louis XV came to power in the early 1700s, a new decorative style was ushered in, with motifs inspired by the organic shapes of nature, possessing much movement and life. A beautiful example is this gilt bronze jardiniere with liner, which dates to the early 1900s. Notice the undulations and counter curves of the foliate rinceau that give the jardiniere its sweeping form. At the apex, the rinceau forms a pair of open handles. There are numerous other pierced motifs seen throughout the jardiniere, such as the scalloped leaf cartouche beneath each handle and the whorled leaves at the bottom of the longer sides. Our Louis XV-style gilt bronze jardiniere can be used functionally as a small indoor planter or as a decorative accessory or vide-poche on a side table or console.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Minor buildup to the exterior with light wear to the removeable liner.
