The hammered details (accomplished by the metalworking technique known as repousse) of this rectangular gilt brass jardiniere are quite exceptional. Performed by a highly skilled metalworker in France during the 1800s, the motifs feature a repeating floral cartouche in low detail. The ends have also been worked to have a subtle bombe outswing, while the two longer sides are slightly concave. Supported by four delicate monopodial splayed feet, the jardiniere has great symmetry and balance. Additional repousse motifs include fluting, twisted bead and reel, and a pierced rim with foliage and scrolls. A perfect decorative accessory for a center or side table, the gilt brass jardiniere can hold a flower arrangement or boxwood ball (as seen in the main photo).

CONDITION: Good antique condition, with minor wear and small dent in corner(s), age separations and pinpricks. Commensurate wear to interior.
