19th Century Gold Louis Philippe Mirror with Beading and Ribboned Cartouche

Description

An elaborate adaptation of a timeless classic, this gold Louis Philippe mirror has a ribboned cartouche. The overall form of this French mirror from the 1800s adheres to the Louis Philippe style, with rounded upper corners and a ring of beading surrounding the glass surface. Another trait of Louis Philippe mirrors is seen on the raised quarter-round molding in the middle of the frame, delicately carved with a repeating X motif. The top of the frame is adorned with a sprawling crinkled ribbon that extends in both directions from a scrolled console crest embellished with olive leaves. At over five feet tall, our Louis Philippe mirror with ribboned cartouche was designed to be a floor mirror (there are small block feet under the frame to enhance stability), however it could also be positioned on top of a mantel in a grand room, such as a study, bedroom, or library.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Minor losses and age separations, leading to the presence of red bole, which is a desirable trait. Light loss of silver to the glass. Traces of old touchups to the frame. Currently not rigged for hanging. Two pieces of wood have been affixed to the back to assist with shipping; the boards are not needed for the final installation.
