From Italy, circa 1850, this giltwood Florentine mirror features a tremendous display of hand-carved curled leaves on multiple levels. The thick acanthus leaves have volute scroll cores and rough protuberances along the tips. There is also a small, scalloped shell at the base of the mirror. At the top is a large, cascading curled leaf with a beaded spine that extends outward farther than the rest of the foliage. The beveled mirror, which is antique but not original, is surrounded by a husked border.
A lovely ornate mirror, our circa 1850 giltwood mirror is typical of the highly worked examples that have been made in Florence for hundreds of years. Parts of this mirror have a burnished gold finish which contrasts well against the more matte sections. This stunning Florentine mirror will make quite the visual impact on any wall.
CONDITION: Wear commensurate to age and use, including minor age separations and rubs to frame. Slight loss of silvering to the mirror, which is antique, but not original. Existing repairs coupled with recent professional restoration, resulting in some uneven coloration. Please see photos for details.
