Description

This French terra cotta fruit topiary features a towering conical cluster of grapes, pomegranates, pears, bananas, and more. The fruit display, which measures an impressive 35 inches in height and 17 inches in diameter, rests on top of a detailed urn, raising the entire sculpture to a height of over 50 inches (which includes the detached pinecone finial that sits in a curled leaf cup). Exposure to the elements has given the fruit a beige hue, which has also dotted the urn that has mainly retained the original orange terra cotta finish. The urn is supported by an octagonal plinth beneath a circular foot adorned with quarter-round and cavetto moldings. A ring of alternating palmettes and scalloped shells adorns the neck of the urn, complemented by a pair of lion mascarons, one on each side, adding a touch of majestic allure. The urn’s opening is adorned with a captivating ring of small circular piercings nestled between two distinctive ridges, with a second row of smaller openings above the intricate palmettes and shells. Our tall and unusual terra cotta fruit topiary would be an incredible accent piece for any interior courtyard or kitchen décor.

CONDITION: Strong and good antique condition with some buildup, general wear, resulting in areas with a darkened patina. Some minor losses to elements as seen in photos. Traces of old restoration with more recent repairs. The pinecone finial is detached.
