Known in France as a poissonniere, this copper and wrought iron fish poacher was hand-crafted in the 1800s. Copper has very high thermal conductivity, making it a fantastic material for cooking before the advent of modern appliances. The ovate poacher would have been hung inside a fireplace by the wrought iron handle with the aid of a crémaillère. Visible dovetail seams on the ends authenticate the age of the poacher, as do the rivets that were used to affix the mounts for the handles. Whether utilized as a functional fish poacher or displayed as part of a collection of copperware, this 19th-century poissonniere would make a wonderful addition to a kitchen.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Commensurate wear, presenting as buildup and indentations. Light losses to the copper finish.
