In the taste of the Italian capriccios, which depict ancient ruins amongst standing architecture, this port scene oil painting (dating to the 1700s) is from Provence, France.  A crumbling edifice can be seen emerging from the waters, which are surrounded by a busy coastline featuring numerous seafarers, citizens engaged in leisurely activities, and a large aqueduct topped by a pergola.

CONDITION: Good antique condition.  Minor nicks and losses to giltwood frame.  Light craquelure with some areas of discoloration.  Rigged for hanging.
