This thick cast stone lion mascaron fountain spout is from England and dates to the 1960s. Cast stone is an aggregate of crushed stone and concrete, in this case, mixed with a stone gray coloring agent that gives the lion its color. Areas of the stone have developed a darkened patina, thanks to some accumulation of moss and lichen. The lion has been depicted with its mouth slightly agape, allowing for water to cascade through the open mouth. A piece of copper tubing inserts through the verso side, allowing our English lion mascaron to be installed above a wall fountain basin or incorporated into the wall of a pool.
CONDITION: Very good condition. Minor nicks and losses. Light rubs. Some verdigris to the tubing, which will not be seen once installed. The verso side has two iron eyelets for installation purposes.
