Pair of 19th Century Fruitwood Corner Cabinets from Provence, France

Description

Dating to the 1800s, this pair of corner cabinets was hand-carved in fruitwood in Provence, France. The sinuous aprons are adorned with urns surrounded by flowering vines, which is typically associated with Provencal woodworkers. Interestingly, the carved flowers are slightly different varieties and the urns have similar, yet distinctive motifs. Both cabinets also have a pair of laurel branches tied with crinkled ribbon carved above the rectangular door. The doors are comprised of two asymmetrical panels with thin molding and are flanked by two flutes embellishing the main body. A large iron barrel hinge allows the doors to swing open, revealing two wedge-shaped shelves inside, allowing for storage of small items. Perfect storage pieces for where space is at a premium, our Provence fruitwood corner cabinets can be displayed in a bathroom, hallway, or living room.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Traces of old woodworm with minor nicks and losses, all commensurate to age and use. Old restoration, coupled with more recent repairs, including installing magnets to one door (the other door has a functioning lock and key).
