Hand-carved in Veneto, Italy, this pair of limestone horses are sculptures in the round, meaning that they can be viewed from any angle. Although the carver chose not to visualize the hindquarters, the positioning of the front hooves on rocky terrain gives the impression that the horses are rearing back. The smaller of the two statues (1/8 of an inch shorter and ¼ of an inch narrower) is depicted with the head lifted, while the other head is angled down. Both animals are well-detailed, with long, flowing manes and defined musculature, and are roughly to scale. Our large limestone horses from Veneto would make fantastic additions to an outdoor sculpture garden. They could also be mounted on pedestals and placed on both sides of a walkway or driveway.

CONDITION: Very good condition. Some light accumulation of lichen and moss is present, enhancing the mottled white and black patination of the grey stone (with some areas that are light gray). Limestone is a natural material that can change colors with exposure to the elements. Please contact us for photos of the current patina.
