Small 17th Century Oak Carved Bust from France

SKU: 124-10 Category: Tag:

$1,580.00

Description

A small oak bust, dating to the 1600s, this well-carved wooden statue hails from France. Depicting an unknown religious figure, the sculpture has a deep rich brown patina, enhancing the nuances of the carvings. The pious man with shoulder-length hair has a stoic look on his bearded face and is clad in a billowing robe. His hands are depicted close to his torso, possibly indicating that he once held an item. Based on the positioning of his hands, the man may be Moses, clutching stone tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments. A well-preserved 17th-century sculpture, our French oak bust is rigged for hanging, allowing the tremendous work of art to be displayed on the wall of just about any room of the house.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor nicks and rubs. Commensurate age separations. Possible missing element that was held in hands. Eyelet in back for hanging purposes.
