Hand-carved in oak and dating to the 1700s, this French altar plaque features a painted monogram that reads “AMSR”. The slightly raised carved initials (which stands for Ave Maria Salve Regina, which translates to “Hail Mary Hail Queen”) have been painted gold, making it stand out from the dark brown patina of the rest of the plaque. A pair of attenuated leaf curls flank the monogram, which has been carved onto a shaped console that is topped by a pierced, scalloped leaf. Our 18th-century altar oak altar plaque would make a wonderful addition to any room of the house.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Minor losses and light rubs. Traces of old nails used for installation.
