As noted by the light dusting of snow on the unpaved street, this charming oil on canvas painting depicts a winter scene. The painting, which dates to circa 1890, features two stable hands loading goods into a wagon being pulled by a team of four horses (three black and one brown). Both workers are clad in heavy, brown jackets as they load brown sacks into a tall gray cart. A black dog sits in front of the horses, next to a light brown door at the foot of some stairs. Two more individuals can be seen on a landing of the cream-colored building that is lined with wooden shuttered windows. The earthy tones of the painting are matched by a brown frame with cavetto molding. A slender gilded molding surrounds the canvas, adding a bit of vibrancy to the neutral colors depicted on the canvas. Our oil on canvas painting of a wagon at the stables can be hung in any room of the house, from a hallway to a living room.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition, with slight rubs to canvas and light wear to frame. The painting is rigged for hanging purposes.
