Originally part of a larger architectural from a French building in the 1600s, this hand-carved limestone fragment of a winged angel has been mounted more recently to a painted black stand with a metal arm. The plinth has a stepped molding and a deep black hue that offsets the winged angel mascaron. Rising above the innocent face is a pair of large volutes with recessed carvings. The stone has a cream-colored patina with areas of exposed stone due to losses having a white hue. A fascinating limestone winged angel, this decorative accessory can be placed on a fireplace mantel, sofa table, or bookshelf.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with acceptable losses, light rubs, and wear from previous installations. The carving has been mounted more recently on a painted stand with a thin metal arm.
