An imaginative rendering of a timeless style, this painted and gilt Louis Philippe-style mirror has added character thanks to the hand-carved scalloped edges. Louis Philippe mirrors typically have clean lines and subtle embellishments that allow them to be paired with just about any interior design style, making them highly sought-after.

The scalloped molding is gold, but losses to gilding over the years have given rise to the red bole beneath; this is a desirable loss, as the presence of red bole is usually a solid indicator of age. As with most Louis Philippe mirrors, the center molding is quarter-round and prominent, flanked by two layers of concave cavetto. In the case of this mirror, the cavetto moldings have been painted cream over the gilding and the quarter round border has visible red bole like the scalloped edges. The innermost molding consists of numerous beads, also gold with visible bole, but to a lesser extent than the other gilded borders. Our painted and gilt Louis Philippe-style mirror was carved and painted by hand in the 1800s. It would make a welcome addition to any room of the house from a hallway or foyer to a bathroom.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor nicks and fleabites to the frame. Slight separations to the frame edges and a desirable loss of gilding, resulting in visible red bole. Very light loss of silver near the bottom of the glass.
