Originating in Italy, this small limestone panel depicts a bas relief garland of fruit, flowers, and leaf cups. Each leaf cup emanates from a roundel attached to a crinkled ribbon that encircles the bouquet. The ribbons connect in the center of the plaque, forming a lozenge with canted edges between the edges of the ribbons. A variegated patina has developed on the dark gray stone, consisting of a mottling of black over areas of lighter gray. Our small Italian limestone panel would make a wonderful decorative element, such as a garden ornament or embedded wall plaque. The panel could also be mounted to an iron stand and used indoors, for example as a bookshelf or mantel accessory.
CONDITION: Very good condition. Intentional distress marks. Patina presents to dark gray stone as lighter gray and a mottling of black. Limestone is a natural material that can change color with exposure to the elements.
