Hand-carved in Italy in the 1700s, this giltwood niche has been mounted to a painted black stand. The small altar piece is quite unique, with the teal painted interior that is flanked by architecture consisting of pilasters and foliate volutes. Other motifs include a crest of a bird emerging from a sunburst concealed by a cloud, and foliate stalks intertwined with a floral swag.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor losses to gilding, revealing traces of red bole, which is a desired appearance. Fleabites and light rubs. The painted wooden stand was added more recently.
