Pair of Tall 18th Century Walnut Interior Doors from Aix-en-Provence, France

$4,800.00

Description

Hailing from the commune of Aix-en-Provence in southern France, this pair of tall interior doors has a wonderful dark brown hue that has been accentuated by a fresh coat of wax. Hand-carved in walnut wood during the 1700s, the doors stand over eight feet tall and are comprised of four recessed panels with thick quarter-round molding. The upper three panels are asymmetrical but retain an overall even composition as a result of the congruent shapes. At the bottom is a rectangular panel that is in line with the linear shape of each door’s edges. Visible square peg construction adds to the charm of these beautiful 18th century doors and they would make fantastic entrances for a bedroom, walk-in pantry, or wine cellar.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Traces of old woodworm, resulting in minor losses. Light age separations, which necessitated small fills and touchups. Most of the hardware is still present, such as latches, turnbolts, keyplates, etc.
