An exquisite pair of French barbotine vases dating to circa 1890, each vessel has been adorned with a beautiful array of paper-thin flowers that extend beyond the main body. The statuesque vases, which stand almost two feet tall, have incurving necks, allowing the collection of flowers to project even further. Both vases have been painted with a variegated ground scheme of yellow with red striations near the base and a solid sky blue near the top. Flowing green leaves accompany the purple, yellow, pink, and blue flowers, providing a wonderful arrangement of color. Most of the flowers are contained to the front of the vase, but there are some low relief vines that extend to the sides and backs.
Produced by the famed French ceramics studio, Longchamp (the foundry began producing fine earthenware pieces in 1832), these lovely vases would make quite an impression on a foyer center table, a fireplace mantel, or on a sofa table in a living room.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Fleabites and very light losses to some of the raised flower petals.
