Description

Hand-carved in the style of Louis XV, this pair of French fauteuils from the late 1800s has been bleached more recently. The beige wood pairs nicely with the cream-colored linen that covers the seat, the back, and the two manchettes, all of which have been affixed with small nails. Hallmarks of the Louis XV period can be seen throughout the chair from the à échancrure centrale back (the arching top) to the stylized scalloped shell and leaf margent on the front rail. The gentle curving cabriole legs that terminate in volutes above pad feet are also frequently seen on chairs of this style. Similar volutes can be seen on the hand rests and the tall arm stumps that are offset from the end of the seat. Full of subtle elegance, our pair of bleached fauteuils with linen upholstery offer comfortable seating for an entrance, living room, or study.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition. The wood has been stripped more recently, with some faint traces of the original finish. Minor losses and age separations to the frames. The linen upholstery is not original, and is in very good condition.
