Hand-carved in Italy, circa 1850, this pair of carved giltwood ornaments have been mounted to a painted black stand with thin metal supports more recently. The foliate ornaments consist of a central cabochon medallion surmounting a scalloped leaf. A pair of curled leaves envelop the cartouche, creating a pierced surround. The crest consists of a rising leaf with a volute base, while a lozenge-pattern background extends from the bottom, terminating in a roundel noix beneath two small volutes. A beautiful pair of Italian giltwood ornaments, these decorative accessories can be placed on a fireplace mantel, sofa table, or bookshelf.
CONDITION: Good condition, with minor losses and wear from previous installations. Old restoration to one ornament. The ornaments were mounted to the painted stands with metal rods more recently.
