Hand-carved in Northern Italy in the Neoclassical style, this limestone wall fountain features a triangular pediment adorned with thick dentils. Comprised of 26 pieces of stone, the entire structure is reminiscent of Classical architecture associated with ancient Greece and Rome. Each stone has a wonderful light gray palette, with some areas that show a cream, green, or darkened patina.
Four stones form the supporting colonnade of the pediment, consisting of two entablatures with cavetto molding above a pair of fluted Ionic half-columns with a molded plinth. In between the columns is a 14-piece back wall of mostly rectangular stones (the upper three stones beneath the pediment are angular) arranged in five tiers. The middle stone of the second highest tier has been carved with a low-relief rosette surmounting foliage that serves as the collar for the iron spout. Eight stones, most with two layers of deep incut molding, are positioned beneath the spout, forming a half-octagonal basin. A wonderfully carved limestone wall fountain, this would instantly enhance any interior courtyard or exterior wall.
CONDITION: Very good condition with minor nicks, rubs, and oxidation to iron spout. Stone is a natural material that can change color with exposure to the elements. Please contact us for photo of current patina.
