Cast in France, using a mixture of pulverized stone and cement, this large wall hanging of Bacchus, God of Wine, can also be used as a fountain spout. The stone and cement mixture, which is known as reconstituted stone, has also been mixed with a coloring agent, giving the mascaron a cream color finish.

Bacchus has been depicted with a long, flowing beard and horns, while surrounded by grapevines (sometimes called Dionysus, he is the Greek/Roman god of grape-harvest and festivity). Although not always presented this way, there are variations to the myth of Bacchus where he is shown with horns, due to the fact that he taught mortals how to plow fields using animals.

Our large cast stone Bacchus can be utilized as a hanging for an outside wall or an interior courtyard. It can also be paired with a stone basin and used as a fountain element, although a hole would need to be drilled in the mouth for an exit spout.

CONDITION: Good condition with minor nicks and rubs, byproducts of the casting method. If used as a fountain spout, a hole must be drilled in the mouth.
