A towering architectural lighting source, this painted wooden chateau sconce is over 57 inches tall and 21 inches deep. Hand-carved circa 1800, the sconce has a beautiful parcel paint finish consisting of beige, cream, and navy throughout the foliate carvings. Topped by a large, segmented leaf crest above a pair of leafy volutes and a water lily, the sconce also features numerous curled leaves, C-scrolls, and a pair of fruited vines that flank a central lobed cabochon. Just beneath the pierced circle is an S-scrolled arm topped with a single pricket. The undulating arm extends over 18 inches outwards and is embellished with leaf curls. Our parcel-painted wooden sconce would make a wonderful addition to a hallway, living room, or library wall.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Commensurate losses to both wood and paint. Traces of restoration work, both old and more recent. Large hook on verso for hanging purposes.
