This grand Italian limestone center fountain features a large center element of three putti playing with a goose. These putti are portrayed as mischievous children, wrestling with the highly plumed bird on top of uneven terrain. Carved from one block of stone, the frivolous scene sits on top of four more carved stones, each depicting a rocky outcrop dotted with vegetation.
The four base stones are arranged with a large cavity (that is covered by the figural display above) that allows for storage of a pump and plumbing. A vertical jet pump can be installed so that water emits from the mouth of the goose, filling the large basin below. The highly shaped basin is roughly ovate, with slight protrusions at each end and on the sides. 10 stones, each incised with half round top edges surrounded by thin molding on each side, form the 11 ½ W x 8 ½ D pool. This large Italian center fountain with putti and goose water feature would be the focal point of any garden or courtyard that it is installed in.
CONDITION: Good condition with minor nicks and rubs. Light buildup with traces of moss and lichen. Old repair to the goose’s mouth. Stone is a natural material that can become darker or lighter from the elements. Please see photos for details.
