Furniture constructed in the style of Louis Philippe, such as this French commode, are highly sought-after, as these pieces pair well with most furniture styles, as a result of their clean lines and lack of ornate decoration. Our commode, which dates to circa 1900, has a beautifully bookmatched flame walnut veneer with a charcoal colored marble top. The overhanging top has a recessed carving on the edges, adding a subtle embellishment to the dark gray stone that has light gray, black, and white veining. Beneath the marble is an ogee-shaped belt drawer with quarter-round molding above three drawers. All four drawers have identical circular key plates, while the lower three have a pair of round pulls. A thick apron finishes the commode above four blocked feet, with the front two being lightly shaped. Our bookmatched Louis Philippe commode would make a wonderful addition to any household.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Light scratches to the marble top. Minor nicks and rubs to the wood body, with some slight traces of old wood worm. The key is not original and is used as a pull for the belt drawer.
