Hand-carved in the mid-1900s, this four door enfilade buffet has been painted a pleasing light blue and white, adding aesthetic appeal to a practical storage piece. Beautiful Neoclassical carvings, in particular the trophy panels, are in the style of Louis XVI, which saw an interest in motifs associated with ancient civilizations.
The overhanging top has been carved with cavetto molding, which was often seen in ancient Egyptian architecture. Below the molding are four belt drawers, all adorned with recessed Vitruvian waves. The drawers are separated by rectangular joineries with rosettes that align over fluted pilasters that separate the three doors of the main body, although the middle doors are separated by a bundled fasces mullion instead. Both side doors open to reveal a compartment with a single shelf, while the double door middle section has two shelves. All four doors are embellished with beautiful carvings (the two center doors have husked swags and the two outer doors have large floral bouquets with crinkle ribbon bows), set inside thickly molded panels with florets in the corners. The thick plinth, which has angular protrusions beneath the pilasters, provides stability, allowing our Louis XVI-style enfilade to be placed in a dining area, living room, or hallway.
CONDITION: Good condition. Minor nicks and losses. A total of seven locks, all functional, accompanied by six keys (the far right door shares a key with the double doors in the middle of the buffet).
