Hand-carved in France, circa 1850, this elegant etagere features elements inspired by nature, known as the Rocaille style. The opulent giltwood wall shelf boasts a rich and vibrant patina, with commensurate wear that has gracefully unveiled traces of the red bole beneath, creating a highly sought-after appearance. The shelf features a beautifully shaped ledge with delicate molding, adorned with a husked garland under a scalloped shell medallion. A thicker molding that gracefully terminates in volutes with foliate margents can be seen below the lobed crenellation on the underside of the ledge. To complete its captivating design, a large, attenuated shell sits proudly above a leaf cup at the base, with Vitruvian waves gracefully flowing along the sides. A functional and decorative accessory for any home that can be installed on a wall of a bathroom, hallway, or living room. Use it to display anything from ceramics to small statuary.
