A stunning commode with bronze dore hardware, this French chest of drawers dates to circa 1875 and is in the Regence style. The beautiful parquetry veneer has a rich sheen and a warm brown hue accented by dark wood grains. Each of the three drawers has a pair of golden rosette pulls flanking a symmetrical scalloped leaf, surrounded by a thin rectangular border. There is a subtle bombe flare to the front façade, which is mirrored by the bronze-edged top. The sides of the top also protrude, as a pilaster runs from the top down to the block feet. A sinuous apron with deep curves is adorned by a golden bronze mount of foliate margents emanating from a floral cartouche. Similarly, both of the bracket-style front feet have golden palmettes affixed to the front. At 24 ½ inches wide and 18 ¼ deep, our Regence-style commode is a perfect case piece for smaller areas, yet still elegant enough to be a focal point.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Minor nicks and rubs. No key. Some restorations to the finish.
