Description

The subject of this painting is a rustic French village beneath a cloudy, yet bright sky. This charming scene features brick houses lining a dusty rural road, embellished with charming cobblestones. Two women traverse the path, with one transporting bags, perhaps laden with feed for the chickens that gather before her; the other woman in the distance stands next to two pink pigs. Encased in a rich, dark gilt wood frame adorned with intricate foliate carvings, our oil painting of a French farm village will add charm to any wall on which it is displayed.  Signed by the artist, Emile Desire Lienard (born 1842), a French painter and sculptor, known for his realistic sculptures of hunting dogs and rural paintings depicting everyday life.

CONDITION: Good condition with minor losses and age separations to frame. Some buildup or discoloration to varnish as seen in photos. Light buildup to canvas with a small pinprick. Rigged for hanging purposes. Signed “E. Sienard” in the lower left corner.
