The Neoclassical motifs of this hand-carved giltwood bench are indicative of the stylings of Louis XVI. This French bench, which dates to circa 1885, has an caned ovate seating surface that is topped by a French gray cushion adorned with overlapping lattices of gold and taupe.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor nicks to frame, with losses of gilding that reveal traces of red bole, which is an appreciated look. Light age separations. Traces of old restoration with some more recent work. Commensurate wear to cushion, presenting as small areas of discoloration and slight runs.
