Description

This elegant French gilt bronze table lamp signed Moreau depicts Erato, the Greek goddess of music, dance and song. She is represented holding a lyre while her left arm is leaning upon an open book that rests upon a fluted column. Trailing ivy extends down the upper portion of the column. She carries the lyre in her right hand which hangs down to her right hip. There is a serene and pensive expression on her face as she looks down and to her left. She stands on an indented and canted, lacquered black base with a gilt metal wreath centered at the front. The electricity is contained inside a beautifully chased bronze rope coming up through the black lacquered base. On the front of the square bronze base beneath her bare feet is the name Moreau. The lamp is attributed Auguste Louis Mathurin Moreau (1855-1919). The unusual shaped lamp shade is canted with stepped out sections on all sides. The color is an ecru that complements the bronze statue. It is lined in a white silk.

Beautifully sculpted and designed, this stunning bronze lamp will be perfect anywhere in the home. The quality and color of the gilding is very good.

CONDITION: Good condition with minor wear in areas. Minor chips to black lacquered base. Old surface buildup to bronze.
