Originally property of a French boucherie, this double butcher block table dates to circa the 1920s. The butcher block is well-constructed with iron brackets and visible circular bolts, allowing the table to preserve functionality after decades of use that have given the chopping surface character-defining undulations. A short wall rises above the chopping surface and is adorned with a thick circular iron medallion of a woman. On each side of the medallion is a decorative aluminum mount, slightly offset above two slots designed to store knives when not in use. The thick façade of the chopping surface also has an iron embellishment consisting of a raised rosette surrounded by a circle set within a pierced foliate margent. A pair of drawers have been carved into the apron below, each with a round iron pull attached by thick, bulbous mounts that have developed a touch of verdigris. Six fluted legs with block feet support the robust table, allowing it to be used functionally as a kitchen island or prep station.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Commensurate wear to the cutting surface, presenting as age separations, slight undulations, and areas of discoloration. Minor nicks and losses. The top was not centered during photography, but the iron mount will line up over the middle leg when installed.
