Description

A beautiful collection of Italian majolica (or maiolica) medicinal vessels, these 10 albarelli jars have been hand-painted with vibrant colors. The jars were produced between the 1700s to the 1900s, but it is possible that some were originally a set, for example, the two jars that have a portrait cartouche surrounded by floral vines on a deep blue background. Despite the varying sizes, shapes, and motifs, most of the jars have blue paint, ranging from cobalt blue of the three Delft-style jars to the dark blue of those with the portrait cartouche. Additional colors include yellow, green, orange, and gold, used to illustrate images ranging from coat of arms to an arabesque of scrolls. One of the jars has a set of handles, while two are paired with lids, providing a vast array of aesthetic styles to display on a mantle or in a glass door cupboard.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Fleabites and light losses. Minor rubs and missing paint to the rims of the openings. Commensurate interior buildup. Please contact us for specific measurements.
