Hand-carved circa 1880, this French nature morte plaque features a highly detailed hunting trophy set within an oval frame with several layers of protruding molding. The hunting display surmounts a textured background, also in an oval shape. A pair of drastically different-sized birds are displayed from a small textured console adorned with a crinkled ribbon. The smaller bird lies on top of the larger bird, which is attached to the console by its feet. Both birds lie on top of oak branches, with some presenting acorns. The beautiful patina of the plaque has been accentuated by French wax, allowing the various hues of the wood to stand out from one another. Our nature morte plaque would be a welcomed addition to a hunting lodge, game room, or study.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Minor rubs, nicks, and losses. Slight age separations where sections of the frame are joined. Rigged for hanging.
