This handsome antique table is from Normandy and features an interesting single cut plank top with a beautiful burl wood grain. The thick walnut plank top was originally cut into two sections to provide longevity and stability to the wood. Larger planks, especially containing burls, can have a tendency to twist and curl with exposure to humidity and time. When viewing the table surface, one can see how each side of the top perfectly matches up to the natural design of the burls on the opposing side.
The table rests on simple, columnar baluster legs, connected by an H-stretcher with a thin, recessed molding. The elongated onion feet compliment the subtle curve of the column legs. The table retains a perfect and rich, waxed walnut patina which accentuates the great burl top and simple, yet elegant design of the rest of the table. It can be placed in a variety of interiors, used as a console, sofa table, or even as a small laptop desk.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with evidence of old wood worm damage as seen in photos. Minor age separations, rubs, and minor losses.
