19th Century French Copper and Wrought Iron Fireplace Chaudron Pot

$1,180.00

Description

Highly detailed motifs on this copper chaudron were painstakingly crafted by a combination of repousse and hammering, meaning the images have added texture, as some just outwards while others are recessed. The rotund French cooking vessel (dating to the 1800s) would have been hung by the twisted wrought iron handle over a roaring fire with the aid of a crémaillère (chimney hook). A flattened rim extends over a pair of angular arms that the handle wraps around. Beneath the opening is a beautiful display of floral and floral motifs, dotted with scrolls, volutes, and shells over a textured background. Three cylindrical legs give the chaudron stability when placed on a flat surface such as a table. Our 19th-century copper and wrought iron chaudron pot would make an instant impression to a kitchen or fireplace area.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Minor indentations, most noticeably to the rim. Light losses to finish. Slight oxidation and fleabites to twisted iron handle. Commensurate interior buildup.
